Our Next Meal

Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Guest Speaker: Heather King

“I Once was Lost . . . but Now Am Found”

Magnificat invites you to experience the inspiring testimony of Heather King, ex-lawyer, writer, sober alcoholic, contemplative and Catholic convert who lives in the thick of Los Angeles. Heather is the author of several books and memoirs, which detail her journey through 20 years of alcoholism, surviving breast cancer, and a broken marriage. All which led to her conversion in 1996.

Heather’s story is one of passion and grit in the face of life’s trials and disappointments. Her writing has been described as “a riveting, warts and all depiction of a lost soul found!” Her parallel spiritual journey through a loneliness that led her to the brink –alcoholically, professionally, socially, psychologically – held the messy, convoluted but eternally beautiful keys to understanding the meaning of life itself!

The gripping story of Heather’s unlikely conversion and the wonder of discovering the healing power of faith is an adventure filled with inspiration for all. Hers is a journey of radical faith, true love and abundant life!

Heather speaks nationwide, is a monthly contributor to Magnificat publication and blogs at heather-king.com. Bring a friend to be blessed!

History of Orange Diocese “Queen of Peace” Magnificat Chapter, est. 1992.

A group of women attending the SCRC conference heard a priest speaking on Magnificat, A Ministry to Catholic women in 1991. Pat Rensing, Anita Williams, Billie Walter, and Barbara Clark were touched by the Holy Spirit to begin Magnificat in the Orange Diocese. They eventually contacted Fr. Raymond Skonezny to seek the bishop’s permission to begin a chapter and to pray about finding a fifth member, Kathleen Beckman, for the service team.

Bishop McFarland reviewed the statutes and quickly approved Magnificat for the Orange Diocese. The first OC Magnificat Prayer Breakfast took place at Holy Family Cathedral Parish Hall, Orange, CA in February 1992 with several hundred women attending a potluck style prayer breakfast with a ticket price of $2.00. The chapter continued to grow  as they held prayer breakfasts from parish to parish. With increasing membership, they outgrew the parish hall venue and began to host the Prayer Breakfasts at a large hotel to accommodate up to 700 attendees at some meals.

Since its inception, our chapter has hosted a quarterly Meal which continues to touch hearts.  In the words of Mary’s Magnificat, “the Almighty One has done great things” through this humble ministry.
